What Is EMTT?

Healing at the Cellular Level

Extracorporeal Magnetotransduction Therapy (EMTT) uses high-energy pulsed magnetic fields to penetrate deep into tissue — reaching structures that ultrasound, laser, and conventional physical therapy cannot access. The magnetic pulses interact directly with cells, triggering biological processes that accelerate tissue repair and reduce inflammation.

Unlike surface-level modalities, EMTT reaches tendons, ligaments, bone, and cartilage at depths of up to 18 cm — completely non-invasively and painlessly for most patients.

The Magnetolith ultra+ by STORZ MEDICAL is the most advanced EMTT device in the world. The Body Shop is one of the very few physical therapy practices in Arizona to offer it.

The Science

How Magnetolith Works

EMTT is grounded in peer-reviewed research and backed by STORZ MEDICAL — the global leader in extracorporeal therapies.

01

Magnetic Field Generation

The device generates high-intensity pulsed magnetic fields — far stronger than standard PEMF devices — delivered in precise therapeutic bursts tuned to the target tissue.

02

Deep Tissue Penetration

The fields penetrate up to 18 cm into tissue without surface contact, reaching deep tendons, ligaments, and bone — completely non-invasively and without discomfort for most patients.

03

Cellular Repair Activation

At the cellular level, EMTT stimulates tenocyte activity, reduces pro-inflammatory cytokines, and promotes collagen synthesis — the biological foundations of lasting tissue repair.

What We Treat

Conditions Effectively Addressed by EMTT

Magnetolith EMTT is particularly effective for chronic and treatment-resistant musculoskeletal conditions.

Chronic Tendon Pain

Tendinopathy of the shoulder, elbow, knee, Achilles, and hip — particularly conditions that have not responded to conventional treatment.

Rotator Cuff Conditions

Partial tears, chronic tendinopathy, and calcific tendonitis of the shoulder — EMTT reaches the deep cuff structures effectively.

Achilles Tendinopathy

Both mid-portion and insertional Achilles conditions respond well to EMTT's deep penetration and cellular stimulation.

Plantar Fasciitis

For chronic or refractory plantar heel pain, EMTT provides a powerful adjunct to other treatments — often producing results where injections and orthotics have plateaued.

Bone & Ligament Healing

Stress fractures, non-healing bone, and ligament pathologies benefit from EMTT's ability to stimulate repair at depths no other non-invasive modality can match.

Post-Surgical Recovery

EMTT accelerates tissue remodeling in the post-operative phase — reducing recovery time and improving functional outcomes alongside rehabilitation.

Your Experience

What to Expect

01

Evaluation

Dr. Nelson reviews your history and performs a hands-on assessment to confirm EMTT is the right approach for your condition.

02

Treatment

The Magnetolith applicator is positioned near the target area. Most patients feel little to no discomfort. Sessions typically run 15–25 minutes.

03

Recovery

No downtime. You can return to normal activities immediately. A series of treatments is recommended for optimal, lasting results.

Common Questions

Magnetolith FAQ

Most patients experience little to no discomfort during EMTT. Occasionally a mild warmth or tingling sensation is reported over the treatment area. There is no post-treatment soreness in most cases.

Many patients begin noticing improvement within 3–5 sessions. A typical course is 6–10 sessions, though chronic or complex conditions may benefit from longer treatment plans. Dr. Nelson will outline a specific protocol after your evaluation.

EMTT has an excellent safety profile with no known serious adverse effects. Contraindications include implanted electronic devices (pacemakers, neurostimulators), metal implants near the treatment area, active malignancy, pregnancy, and blood clotting disorders. Dr. Nelson will review your full medical history before proceeding.

Yes — and it often produces the best outcomes when combined with manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, and other modalities. Dr. Nelson frequently uses EMTT alongside shockwave therapy, dry needling, and targeted rehabilitation for a synergistic effect.
